Mad O Wot began in 2004, long before words like “eco” and “sustainable” became trends. We were a small, slightly wild salon in Bandra with one big idea that great hair shouldn’t need styling products, tools, or tricks to look good.

Mad O Wot began in 2004, long before words like eco and sustainable became trends. We were a small, slightly wild salon in Bandra with one big idea that great hair shouldn’t need styling products, tools, or tricks to look good.
That’s how The Rickshaw Dry was born. After a cut, we’d send our clients on a rickshaw ride through the Bombay heat and humidity; no blow-drying, no products.
If the hair still looked great after that, you knew it was a damn good haircut.
Wash and go, literally.

We were also the first and only salon in the world that refused to sell hair products.
Because we believed we were here to cut hair, not sell bottles.
The craft was the point not the commission.
Our first space was a tiny, art-soaked corner of Bandra, with interiors hand-painted by Bollywood sign painter Ramakand Fadte, making us pioneers of the non-salon-looking salon, steeped in individuality, colour, and madness.
The quaint shop sat in the chawls of Chimbai, with fish drying outside to greet you, their smell wafting in through the air-conditioning vents. A parrot named Moti, owned by a local, sat in a cage by the door keeping visitors company.
And when evening came, the sunset view from that little space was worth more than any Queen’s Necklace.
The name Mad O Wot came from the neighbourhood itself; Bandra slang for a kind of lovable chaos that refuses to fit into boxes. Around the same time, we also started India’s first second-hand shop and a clothing line to go with the madness.
After 16 years and moving around to 6 locations in October 2020, we paused. It was time to step back, breathe, and rediscover the madness that started it all.
And now, here we are - back again, officially as a sustainable salon, which, truth be told, we always were from the beginning.
Two decades later, the madness continues.
We’ve evolved into an eco-conscious space powered by plants and guided by craft, but our soul remains the same -
no gimmicks, no fluff, just real people and good hair.
